HGU-14/P helmet

Message 1635:
Hi Chris and others,
I am looking for an ID on this inner helmet type. It is used with the Netherlands AF Flight (Physilogics?) Training Center. As can be seen, it has no chinstrap and has mine has a helotype earcupset. The label has been damaged so i can not read anything from it. It looks like an H-4 inner helmet but these are all brand new!
Any info? Bye HUD

HUD, Looks like the inner helmet onthe Canadian DH-41-2 and DH-411. They used the helmets or may still be using the helmets and Gentex made them.

Message 1638:
Hi Steve, They look brand new and are still in use over here. Although they have the older type tags in the helmet, blue with gold/yellow words. I supect these inner helmets having been used on the Socapex 403 helmet in the Netherlands Airforce. Have no evidence so far. I know of Coen of Flash Aviation having a complete set (Dutch 403 with inner helmet) have not seen an image of it so no info from that source.

The US had a very similiar cloth helmet called the HGU-14/P used in altitude chambers. Used some of the parts as per the Canadian DH-41-2. I also have a nearly new example in green, with bakelite receivers that came from western U.S. Complete with comms and a Gentex tag with the gold lettering.
Cheers, Steve

Message 1640:
Figmo, Do you have any images of that helmet handy to show the rest of us what it looks like? Thanks.

Message 1643:
Hi Steve, Sounds like the same one, up to the gold lettering and bakelite recievers! The one I have seen had helotype earphones replacing the older ones.

Message 1649:
Hi Steve and others, I recieved word from the Lt Col who leads the centre and he told me the following:
" The inner helmets you refer to were bought 10 years ago by the Centre especially for the hypobaric chamber. Ours is the only place were helmets like these are used. We also refer to them as Caisson caps. They are delivered by the American factory Gentex of Carbondale. It is a replacement for the Gueneau 316 (!) helmet. These helmets were not suited for use in the Netherlands Air Force"
This is a quick translation of his letter. This leaves me with two problems. Obtaining a Gentex inner helmet and a Gueneau 316 helmet, just to complete my collection.......I have put a request at the Lt Col's office for a visit. (the entire Flightgear Online crew, Sven and me....)
