HI mates, following the previous message about Canadian H-5 helmets, I just found this

Hey Bill, I won the silver H-4-1 with external visor off E-Bay and now I am looking for a
mask and the inner cloth helmet. I may have create a stir with the O2-mask as I am
interested in putting something different on this helmet (I have several MS-22001s with
Pate Suspension and one H-4-1 with a Brit H style mask). That's why I was wondering if the
Old style MS-22001 the Brits used was used on this helmet. I am guessing this helmet with
the 2nd style visor is circa 1965? is one.
Thanks, Steve

Dear All, NO! the V mask retainer was only used for casual aircrew members. In other word
flight crew in the back of transport types not fighter.

The mask I have for the H-4-1 helmet is the same type of the pictured on the page 91 of
the Jet Age F/H book. The mask is dated 62,63,64 and is made by MSA. The
"U.S.Property" lettering is rubbed away. The mic is the MC-254-R model. And is
not silicone made. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Tapky

As far as I am aware, the Canadian H-4-1 was used with the silicone MS22001 mask with USN
aluminum "V" mask suspension from about 1970 onwards. I would imagine that a 60s
vintage version would use a rubber MS22001 with the same Navy "V" suspension.
The best authorities would probably be our Canadian members (Bill Cook?). Gentlemen,
please belly-up to the bar with some info on this, eh?

Last Friday I won a Canadian H-4-1 equipped with an external visor. I wish to rebuild this
circa early 1960s. I need an inner cloth helmet and comms and an oxygen mask. I have an
H-4-1 with Brit H mask and I am wondering what mask would be compatable on this helmet,
that I don't have in my collection. Could I use the MS-22001 mask in British configuration
(microphone port is cut out)? Anyway, I am open to suggestions on the mask and have some
stuff to trade. By the way, could the inner cloth helmet used on the DH-411 be used in the
H-4-1?
Cheers, Steve Norris

Concerning the flight helmet on ebay #492123675, it is a Canadian H-4-1 made by Gentex for
Canada. The comms liner differs from the US H-4 liner by having a fine mesh crown and
strange helmet to liner connecting straps at the cheeks (notice the placement of the cheek
snaps compared to a US H-4). As far as the visor, it has an internal ratchet lock inside
the mounts, no exterior track or spring locks. The same type of rig is in the JAFH book
under Sweden. The visor mount actually sits in a recessed dent on either side of the
helmet. Hope that helps, Jerry
