Cobra helmets Message 170:
There seems to be a bit of misunderstanding concerning Svens questions about the Cobra
helmet. The helmet is named Cobra and not used on one. It is painted flat grey and has a
black TPL and black earcup set and inner helmet. It uses a single visor with the knob on
the left hand cover side. There are clear and tinted visors available but they need to be
switched in the ALSE shop..... It also features a boommike and can be fitted with the
Anvis goggles set. (type V2 with clip wich attaches to the visor cover.) The label inside
the helmet only has a part number and no HGU or SPH type mentioned. It only says
"Cobra". And of course manufactured by Gentex. They are now to be replaced with
SPH-5 helmets. These SPH-5's are coming from Cougar (AS 352U2) and CH47D units. These
units are recieving HGU-56P. Ron Kraan

Here's a picture of the Cobra helmet in my collection. I have had another which I sold
about 2 years ago. They (helmets) were almost identical. The monicle is a sighting system
for weapons. I don't have details on the weapons systems at this time. Cheers, Steve

This person has also offered me a "Cobra" helmet. This helmet is worn at the
Dutch Bo-105CB helicopter. This helmet is similar to SPH or HGU?!? Is it in use at the
RNlAF only or does other airforces use this model too? The label inside the Cobra helmet
says:
8415-17-908-6101
p/n 2872-1008
size extra large
19/6/4739/12
Hope someone can help me out. With kind regards, Sven Scheffers
